It is with great pleasure that I write this message to welcome you to the Journal of Bahrain Medical Society (JBMS) which is the official journal for Bahrain Medical Society (BMS) published by HealthMinds Consulting Pvt. Ltd., India.
It has been two years since I was given the privilege to serve as the “President of BMS and JBMS” and is a great pleasure for me to humbly shoulder this duty despite it being a constantly challenging task.
JBMS was established in 1989 and it is a “Gold Open Access” journal meaning that all published articles are freely available to everyone. This helps everybody to benefit from the access to scientific knowledge without the need to be a member in Bahrain Medical Society.
I am very fortunate to have a highly effective team; including Dr. Rana Al-Ghatam, Chief Editor, who “pulls the whole show together”. The editorial board members work incredibly hard in the assessment and processing of submitted articles. JBMS is also backed up by experts on our advisory board and we are fortunate to have them as ambassadors for the journal.
I would like to express my gratitude to those who have supported me during the last two years and to those who are going to be with me in our journey to take the journal to a higher level. We hope to be able to bring about gradual changes in the near future for more successful indexation and for further progress of JBMS.
Lastly, I would like to thank all our submitting authors, who have toiled in the production of their work, and have chosen JBMS as the journal they would like to publish in.
Dr. Ghada Al Qassim
Journal of The Bahrain Medical Society
Dear Readers, Scholars and Colleagues,
During these challenging times for the global communities as we battle the COVID-19 pandemic, we appreciate all the efforts and hard work of our healthcare frontline colleagues.
We recognise that our president of JBMS, as well as many of our editors, editorial boards, reviewers, the publisher staff and authors are being deployed in other tasks, with different sets of responsibilities and challenges as they support the health system in patient care. Despite the significant disruption that is being caused by the COVID-19 pandemic we are very proud of the amount of submissions we received for this issue. We are also happy of the performance of our peer review structure that was maintained in a timely manner regardless of the pressure caused by the current crisis.
Undoubtedly, one of the biggest rewards we have received is the honour and recognition of the health professionals combating the COVID-19 by His Royal Highness Prime Minister Prince Khalifa bin Salman Al-Khalifa on designating the Bahraini Doctor’s Day, on the first Wednesday of the month of November, and the launch of a prize named after HRH the Premier to honour outstanding Bahraini practitioners in the medical therapeutic and research fields.
The initiative will have a positive impact on doctors and health professionals in competing to develop high standard therapeutic and medical research projects.
We would like to extend our sincere gratitude to HRH Prime Minister Prince Khalifa bin Salman AlKhalifa for his continued support to the health care workers.
Once again we would like to take this moment to thank all of you – authors, readers, reviewers, and editors – who are on the frontlines of fighting the pandemic, and caring for people affected by it.
Dr Rana Al-Ghatam
During this Coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic, you — our selfless doctors, are spending long hours assisting those in need and are on the front lines combating the disease in our community.
We want to showcase you and thank you for the hard work you do every day. Society wouldn’t be safe without you.
“We owe you a great debt, and we will never forget your services.”
